    LSU System Policy

    Tulane University Recovery
    • According to their website at the time, Tulane University expected 86% of its students to return on January 17, 2006 (http://www.tulane.edu). They have announced a plan for recovery at http://renewal.tulane.edu that would include elimination of 180 faculty positions in their medical school and 50 additional faculty positions as a result of the elimination of undergraduate and professional degree programs.

    New Layoff Policy for Community
    and Technical Colleges
    • The Baton Rouge Advocate reported in December 2005 (http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/121505/new_layoff001.shtml) that the Louisiana Community and Technical College Board of Supervisors has approved a new policy for firing professors. According to this policy, tenured faculty members can be fired with 5 days notice.

    Force Majeure Exigency Declared
    for LSUHSC in New Orleans
    • In November 2005 the Board of Supervisors of LSU issued a Force Majeure Exigency plan for the LSUHSC in New Orleans (http://www.lsuhsc.edu/no/administration/BoardFindings.htm). This document details the plan for furlough and termination of staff employees and faculty members (including tenured) due to the current lack of a revenue stream. Faculty members were given 5 days to appeal upon notification of their having been furloughed.
